About PIECES
An infrastructure
for editioned art.
PIECES is a curated marketplace for limited-edition fine art prints, built around verified provenance, transparent pricing, and protected transactions.
A marketplace where the data and the protections are public
Editioned fine art is undergoing the same trust-infrastructure transition that watches and sneakers went through over the last decade. Watches got Chrono24. Sneakers got StockX. Both replaced the old model — opaque pricing, gated relationships, hard-to-verify authenticity — with a marketplace where the data and the protections are public. Editioned prints have not had that transition yet.
The platforms that exist today either trade aesthetics for trust (galleries, where the relationship is the trust signal but the pricing is not public) or trust for accessibility (generic marketplaces, where the listing barrier is low but the verification is light). PIECES sits in the gap. Every listing is reviewed before it goes live. Every seller passes Stripe identity verification. Every transaction is covered by a five-day post-delivery inspection window. Every print's chain of custody enters the same data record as every other print, comparable across artists and dealers. The commission is 8% flat, applied uniformly — no scale discount, no surcharge — and new sellers receive their first 3 sales commission-free.
The longer-term ambition is what the marketplace makes possible: a comparable-sales dataset that grows with every transaction, a price index for editioned work, authentication infrastructure that travels with the print rather than the seller. Marketplace as the monetization layer atop a data and trust engine — the same playbook the watch and sneaker analogs validated, applied to a category where it has not yet been built.
Two sides of the same conversation
Collectors on PIECES are people who already buy editioned work. They understand provenance, edition rigor, condition grading, and what comparable sales actually closed at. They want documentation alongside the work, and they want to track what they own over time. Most have bought from galleries before; many still do. PIECES is not a replacement for the gallery relationship. It is a place to buy editioned prints with the protections of a regulated marketplace, and a tool to keep the records of a collection in one place.
Sellers on PIECES are individual dealers, private collectors with editioned inventory, and galleries with public-facing institutional standing. The common thread is that they have something to document and an interest in selling on terms that make the documentation visible. PIECES coordinates the trust infrastructure — verification (via Stripe), COA review, a five-day post-delivery inspection window, and dispute resolution — so the negotiation between a seller and a buyer is about the work, not about who can be trusted. Sellers ship directly to buyers.
What we operate by
Five principles that survived being checked against actual decisions, not aspirational ones.
-
We don't list what we can't authenticate.
Listings missing required documentation are not published. The standard applies equally to a $200 print and a $20,000 print.
-
Pricing should be earned, not negotiated in the dark.
Comparable sales and auction results are visible alongside every listing. Buyers and sellers negotiate against the same record.
-
Provenance follows the work, not the seller.
Every transaction adds to the print's chain of custody. The record stays with the print across owners, not in any single seller's archive.
-
Trust is infrastructure, not marketing.
Verification, COA review, the five-day post-delivery inspection window, and dispute resolution are platform mechanics — applied to every transaction, not a tier of service available to certain sellers.
-
Eight percent applies the same way to every transaction.
No scale discount for galleries, no surcharge for individual sellers, no relationship-based pricing. The marketplace pays the same flat 8% no matter who is selling. New sellers — including galleries — receive their first 3 sales commission-free as a launch promotion.
